This diamond industry forum is centered around Africa, and the topic of cultivating diamonds may appear in the round table

This year's diamond industry forum Facets 2023 will be held in Botswana tomorrow (October 24), with the theme of "Diamonds for Change" (translated into "Diamond Change" by the media). We still remember that the first forum (Facets 2022) was held in Antwerp on September 14th last year, when Edahn Golan also expressed the view that "cultivating diamonds has a penetration rate of 10% in the field of engagement diamonds in the United States", which caused a lot of discussion in the industry.

From this year's schedule, Facets 2023 should focus on natural diamonds, especially in Africa.

The forum was held in Botswana, a major natural diamond country (of course, Belgium AWDC is also one of the organizers). Most of the participants were core members of the African natural diamond industry. In addition to President Masisi of Botswana and Minister of Energy Moagi, there were also heavyweights such as Masire, the chief executive officer of Okavango, Hoymans, the executive director of Bonas, and Amupolo, the chief executive officer of Namdia.

Edahn Golan will still participate in this forum as a roundtable host, but we are not yet sure if he can deliver a speech like the previous one. In addition, given the current unstable world situation and extremely sluggish diamond industry, Golan, as a staunch defender of the value of natural diamonds (he has always been), should express (or guide) relevant views in the roundtable discussions he chairs. We may as well wait and see.

This forum has three round tables, with the following themes:

·The Current Situation, Challenges, and Opportunities of the Diamond Industry

·Supporting diversity, gender equality, and inclusivity

·Ensuring the Growth of Africa's Diamond Industry

From the current reports, it can be seen that the African diamond industry will shine brightly at the Facets 2023 event. After all, Russian diamonds face stricter sanctions from the West (although it may be a bit difficult to implement), and African diamonds need to seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Interestingly, we did not find any representatives from Dubai or India on the guest list.

As for cultivating diamonds, we currently have not found any valuable information on the official website or related reports of this forum. But in the first round table on "industry challenges", we speculate that the attending guests may mention the cultivation of diamonds. After all, in numerous articles from the natural diamond industry, "changes in the economic environment" and "intervention in cultivating diamonds" are the two main reasons for the decrease in demand and price of natural diamonds!
