Pink Diamond Becomes Heritage Auctions’ Highest-Priced Jewel Ever

A pink-diamond ring set a new record at Heritage Auctions last week when it sold for $2.2 million — the highest price the Texas-based auction house has ever achieved for a piece of jewelry.

At the ring’s center is the 6.17-carat Angelina diamond, an oval-shaped, fancy-pink, VVS2-clarity stone. Sporting a surround of full-cut diamonds and additional diamonds on the band, the piece led the December 3 Holiday Fine Jewelry Signature Auction. The final sale price surpassed the ring’s presale estimate of $1.8 million.

The sale garnered $8.4 million in total, and more than 330 lots found buyers. Jewelry from designers such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany & Co. and David Webb also went under the hammer.

These Van Cleef & Arpels earrings feature natural pearls, 5 carats of baguette and full-cut diamonds, and 1 carat of European-cut diamonds. They sold for $600,000 — 20 times their $30,000 upper estimate.

This ring featuring a cut-cornered square-shaped, 10.89-carat, D-color, VS2 diamond between two triangular diamond shoulders fetched $325,000, surpassing its $300,000 top presale price.

Bearing a round brilliant-cut, 5.90-carat, D, VVS2 diamond between a pair of pear-shaped diamonds, this ring achieved $175,000 on the auction block, within its price range.

This ring centers an emerald-cut, 9.69-carat, K, VVS2 diamond with two additional baguette diamonds. The lot realized $143,750.
