Rare Watch Could Fetch $1.5M at Sotheby’s Geneva Sale

Sotheby’s will offer an A. Lange & Söhne clock watch that could realize as much as CHF 1.2 million ($1.5 million) at its upcoming Geneva auction.

The pink gold Grande Complication timepiece, handmade in 1916 by the German watchmaker, features grande and petite sonneries, minute repeating, a perpetual calendar, and a split-second chronograph. It’s the fifth watch in a limited series of nine and will go under the hammer at the May 10 Important Watches auction, Sotheby’s said Wednesday.

The auction house’s flagship live sale will encompass more than 150 watches, including pieces from famous designers such as Rolex, Patek Philippe and Cartier.

Another notable timepiece at the sale is a Paul Newman John Player Special Rolex Daytona watch from 1969. A rare gold chronograph wristwatch with a bracelet, it has an upper price of CHF 850,000 ($1.1 million). An additional Rolex Daytona, a Paul Newman watch circa 1967 with a yellow gold chronograph, carries a CHF 600,000 ($760,000) high estimate.

Meanwhile, an F.P. Journe pink gold dual time zone wristwatch with a CHF 600,000 ($760,000) upper price tag is also on offer, as well as an F.P. Journe Octa Automatic Lune from 2009 with a CHF 600,000 ($760,000) high price.
