Grandview Klein Opens New Factory in South Africa

Grandview Klein just opened a new diamond manufacturing facility in South Africa. It employs 50 people and represents a “strategic investment in local beneficiation and technical excellence at origin,” the company said.

Johannesburg, South Africa—Grandview Klein Diamonds has opened a new 10,000-square-foot diamond manufacturing facility and office in South Africa.    

The facility, which opened in late February, employs 50 highly trained professionals and is state-of-the-art, Grandview Klein said. 

It uses advanced planning systems, precision laser-cutting and bruting technology, and automated polishing equipment, allowing it to optimize rough yield, improve cutting precision, and maintain transparency and compliance throughout the manufacturing process.

Grandview Klein, a De Beers Group sightholder, said the opening of its new factory in South Africa underscores its commitment to responsible sourcing, to cutting diamonds in the communities where they are mined, and to employing local people to do so.  

The company has factories in Namibia and Botswana, as well as an office and cutting facility in New York City’s Diamond District.  

“For us, beneficiation is not a contractual obligation. It is embedded in our DNA,” Grandview Klein CEO Moshe Klein said. 

“Diamonds should generate opportunity, skills, and lasting economic value in the countries where they originate. Responsible sourcing must be matched by meaningful local participation.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official opening of the new facility took place Feb. 23. 

Grandview Klein executives and senior executives from De Beers were in attendance.
