LA Diary, Part 1: Meet Your Heroes

For more than a decade, I have spent at least six weeks in Los Angeles during Awards Season, also known as winter in New York. When I am lucky, I can stretch it to a couple months.

I justify this journey with the jewelry (no surprise) from all over the globe that touches down here during this timeframe. There’s also a vibrant jewelry community in the City of Angels, many of whom I’ve known for decades.

I’ve never written about this trip in a diary format. In the past, I would just cover my LA stories in a traditional jewelry news mode. Honestly, I’ve always kept the length of my journey a bit on the down low. As a New Yorker who isn’t freezing in the city, I suffer from survivor’s guilt. Friends have told me this is silly.

So, I thought it was time to switch things up and report on the experience that always feels like an alternate reality. This is my splashy Part 1 with professional photographs and luminaries. In Part 2, I’ll be sharing my favorite off the beaten track spots in an LA Guide with a few places from Palm Springs thrown in the mix.

If you’re wondering about my whereabouts now, I’m still in Los Angeles. I’ll be back in New York City before the GEM Awards on March 13.

Night of Stars

I’ve had big nights out in Los Angeles over the years, but nothing quite like what I experienced on February 10. The evening started in a hotel suite where I was given an exclusive interview with Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu from Emily in Paris arranged by Pomellato where she is an ambassador.
