After a painful breakup, Melissa decided to put the past behind her, including the beautiful ring her ex had given her. With a heavy heart, she walked into a prestigious jewelry store hoping to get rid of the piece and get some money in return. However, when the jeweler examined it closely, her eyes widened in disbelief.

Mr. Harris, the jeweler

Mr. Harris gasped as he examined the ring and looked at Melissa in amazement. “Wait here, I’ll be right back,” he said before disappearing into a back room, taking the jewelry with him. Melissa, puzzled by his reaction, stood alone at the counter, not understanding what had happened.

It doesn’t possess anything unique…

Melissa had had the ring for a couple of years and had never noticed anything particularly special about it.

It was certainly a nice piece, but as far as she knew, there was nothing more to say about it. However, she was about to find out the truth.

In the final showdown

As she waited, Melissa looked around the store, listening for sounds coming from the back room, where Mr.Harris seemed to be rummaging through some drawers. She heard him mumbling something, assuming he was talking to himself, but she couldn’t make out what he was saying.

He showed up stressed

“Is everything okay?” asked Melissa, wondering if perhaps she should have gone to another store. Mr. I’m just checking on one thing.

Harris to return, having no idea of the startling discovery she was about to make. That day would end very differently than she had imagined…and not in a good way, let me tell you.

A sheet of paper

Mr. Harris was holding something in his hands: a piece of paper.

Melissa guessed that was what he had been looking for, but she didn’t understand what relation it might have to her ring. She tried to get a better look, but the jeweler had folded the paper in half, preventing her from reading what it said, and she put it in her pocket.

It was extremely serious

“Miss Melissa, I hope you don’t mind, but I need to ask you a personal question,” Mr. Harris said.

She nodded, and he continued, “Where did you get this ring?” He looked her straight in the eye with a very serious, almost strict expression.

Her ex-partner

Melissa blushed, though whether it was at the memory of her ex or at the accusatory tone in Mr. Harris’s voice, she didn’t know.

“My ex-boyfriend gave it to me a few years ago,” she replied, explaining that they were no longer together and that she had decided it was time to get rid of the ring.

Ask some questions

“All right, I see…” replied Mr. Harris, scratching his head. “Do you happen to know… where he got this ring?

” he asked, carefully phrasing his question. Melissa shook her head and explained that she had always assumed her ex had bought it at a jewelry store.

Waiting for a co-worker

It never occurred to her to ask him where he had bought his gift. “That would be so weird,” she thought to herself.” said Mr. Harris.

“Well, actually I need to check with a colleague before I buy it for him. They’re on their way right now, shouldn’t be long now, would you like a cup of coffee or tea while you wait?
