Namdia Fires CEO After Disciplinary Hearing

Namdia, Nambia’s state-owned diamond company, has fired its CEO, Alisa Amupolo, for “gross negligence and gross insubordination,” according to a statement.

The decision was made following a “disciplinary hearing, which commenced in November 2024, [and] concerned operational decisions made by the CEO that led to losses for the business during the periods,” the statement said.

Amupolo, who’d been Namdia CEO for three years, has the right to appeal.

In February, Namdia suspended Amupolo and two other employees following a robbery at its Windhoek headquarters that resulted in the death of a company employee. However, Namdia’s statement said Amupolo’s removal was not related to that incident but to “a preexisting disciplinary hearing.”

Lelly Usiku remains the company’s interim CEO until a permanent appointment is made.

In the statement, board chair Justus Hausiku said the decision was “not taken lightly” and the board thanks “Dr. Amupolo for her service since 2022.”
