Nirav Modi’s Brother Arrested in US for Extradition to India – Reports
Featured

US authorities have arrested diamond dealer Nehal Modi after Indian law enforcement issued an extradition request in connection with his alleged involvement in a multibillion-dollar bank fraud.
The arrest took place last week at the behest of India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), after Interpol issued a Red Corner notice for his detention, according to Indian media reports. Modi is suspected, along with his brother, Nirav Modi, and uncle, Mehul Choksi, of defrauding Punjab National Bank (PNB) of $2 billion, a case that first broke in 2018.
Separately, Nehul Modi was arrested in 2020 in the US and charged with grand larceny for stealing $1.4 million in diamonds from a New York wholesaler.
Meanwhile, Nirav Modi was arrested in London in 2019 on behalf of Indian authorities after months of evading capture. Since then, he has remained in a London prison as he fights deportation charges.
Choksi was arrested in the Caribbean in 2021 following three years on the run. He founded Gitanjali Gems, which has since been sold.
