Sotheby’s High Jewelry Auction Rakes In over $31M

A Graff diamond ring was the top seller at a recent Sotheby’s jewelry sale in New York, where it brought in $3.2 million. 

The ring features an emerald-cut, 3.01-carat, D-color, VVS2-clarity, type IIa diamond, set between a pair of triangle-shaped diamonds. The piece sold just above its $3 million upper estimate at the June 13 High Jewelry auction, Sotheby’s said last week.  

In total, the sale brought in $31.4 million, with 95% of lots finding buyers and many pieces selling above their high asking prices. Sotheby’s also offered jewelry from famous design houses such as JAR, Harry Winston and Boucheron.

This Marcus & Co. necklace sports a drop-shaped pendant with a cushion-cut, 9.60-carat Burmese ruby, surrounded by old European-cut diamonds, and framed and topped by calibré-cut rubies. The piece brought in $1.8 million, within its presale estimates.

A modified rectangular mixed-cut, 2.02-carat, fancy-vivid-blue, VS2-clarity diamond ring went under the hammer for $1.8 million, just hitting its top estimate. 

This JAR ring features a square emerald-cut, 8.62-carat Colombian emerald in a mounting pavé set with single-cut diamonds. It more than doubled its $700,000 price to achieve $1.6 million. 

This ring bears an oval-shaped, 5.02-carat, fancy-pink, VS2-clarity diamond. It sold for $1.5 million, just above its low estimate. 

This ring made $1.4 million, twice its high presale price of $700,000. The piece features a rectangular step-cut, 7.50-carat Kashmir sapphire, flanked by a pair of baguette diamonds.   

A pair of unmounted pear-shaped, D-flawless, type IIa diamonds weighing 10.32 and 10.11 carats garnered $1.3 million, in line with expectations. 

The auction house sold this ring featuring a square emerald-cut, 8.08-carat, fancy-vivid-yellow, VVS1-clarity diamond, set between a pair of tapered baguette diamonds. It surpassed its $700,000 upper price, fetching $1.1 million. 

This pair of Graff earrings bears four sugarloaf cabochon Colombian emeralds weighing 26.19, 25.92, 15.53 and 15.57 carats, spaced by two square emerald-cut, 5.07- and 5.02-carat diamonds, and 14 pear-shaped accent diamonds weighing a total of 10.50 carats. It went for $901,700, within its presale estimates.

An unmounted emerald-cut, 17.05-carat, D-color, VVS1-clarity diamond sold for $889,000, within its presale range.
