GemGuide Has a New Pricing Chart for Colombian Emeralds

New York—GemGuide, the trade resource published by colored gemstone market-focused industry organization Gemworld International, has released new Colombian emerald pricing charts.

The charts include pricing for unenhanced Colombian emeralds for grades 7 through 10, fine and extra fine.

GemGuide said its price research showed the most significant premiums in these grades.

The May/June 2025 GemGuide issue and app also features a chart based on Colombian emeralds enhanced with cedarwood oil as opposed to resin.

GemGuide said it released the new guide in response to requests from subscribers.

The earlier version of its Colombian emerald charts “somewhat” addressed this, the publication said. 

The fine to extra fine quality emeralds most often are enhanced with oil, while the low to middle quality categories usually are filled with resin when filler identification is disclosed.

At the end of last year, the Gemological Institute of America announced its clients could request filler identification be included in their emerald reports, which already include stone identification and the degree of filler.

Gemworld’s previous extensive price research was referenced in an article in the November/December 2024 issue of GemGuide.

The article, “Emerald Fillers and Today’s Market: Demand and Pricing,” discusses how emerald filler type and degree of enhancement influence wholesale prices, and it provides an idea of market make-up and preferences in the market.

GemGuide said it will continue market research in this area, and it welcomes feedback on the charts.
