15ct. Pink-Diamond Ring Nearly Triples Estimate at Phillips

A ring featuring a 15.12-carat, very-light-pink diamond fetched nearly three times its high estimate at Phillips on Monday, selling for $915,900.

Sitting between two heart-shaped diamonds, the marquise-shaped pink center stone is VVS2 clarity with the potential to be internally flawless. The ring, which had an upper estimate of $350,000, led the December 8 New York Jewels Auction, Phillips said Tuesday.

The sale raked in $5.3 million, with 94% of the 109 lots finding buyers. Pieces included signed jewels from Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Boucheron, as well as other colored-gemstone and diamond items.

These emerald and diamond earrings brought in $309,600, within estimates. One earring features a pear-shaped, 6.44-carat Colombian emerald hanging from a step-cut, 3.01-carat, D, VS1 diamond, while the other has a 7.45-carat, E, VS1 diamond dangling from a step-cut, 1.93-carat Colombian emerald. Each stone has a frame of circular-cut diamonds.

This ruby and diamond Van Cleef & Arpels necklace realized $232,200, close to three times its $80,000 presale estimate. The piece features cabochon rubies accented by brilliant-cut diamonds and circular-cut rubies.

The auction house achieved $219,300 for this ring, within the estimated price range. It contains an oval, 5.27-carat Burmese ruby in a surround of eight old-cut diamonds.
