Super Smalls’ New Book Introduces Kids to Gems, Fine Jewelry

New York—Super Smalls, the kids’ crafts and toy brand that merges fine jewelry with fun, is set to release its first book.

The “Super Book of Gems: Birthstone Magic, Science, Facts, and Fun” is a 128-page book recommended for reading ages eight and up but is enjoyable and educational for all ages.

It is “designed to delight curious kids and gem-loving grown-ups alike,” said Super Smalls, as the book features a combination of educational and fun material.

Written by Super Smalls co-founders and sisters Maria Dueñas Jacobs and Bianca Gottesman, the book includes a birthstone guide that delves into the colors and symbolism of the gemstones as well as birthstone trivia.

It is filled with illustrations and photography, with contributions from Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari, Cartier, Irene Neuwirth, Marlo Laz, Foundrae, and other brands and designers showcasing their jewelry.

It also includes an introduction to gemology in a format that feels more like play than study, said the brand, with science lessons on gemology and geology like the Mohs Hardness Scale, diamond anatomy, and the Four C’s.

“This book was born out of our mission to inspire creativity, imagination, and wonder,” said Dueñas Jacobs.

“It’s meant to be flipped through again and again—by kids, parents, and anyone who loves beautiful things.”

The Super Book of Gems is published by Union Square & Co. with a forward written by Stellene Volandes, editor-in-chief of Town & Country and editorial director of Elle Décor.

Volandes has also authored “Jewels That Made History: 101 Stones, Myths, and Legends” and wrote the forward in Silvia Furmanovich’s “Journey of a Jeweler.”

The Super Book of Gems is set to release on Oct. 14, in tandem with Super Smalls’ “Super Gems” charm bracelet and its Gemstone Rock Box.

The costume jewelry charm bracelet, retailing for $39, features 12 charms mimicking an emerald, pearl, ruby, peridot, sapphire, pink tourmaline, citrine, turquoise, garnet, amethyst, aquamarine, and diamond.

The Gemstone Rock Box, which retails for $32, includes stones of rose quartz, turquoise, rock quartz, aventurine, tiger’s eye, obsidian, fluorite, and amethyst.

Along with these releases, Union Square & Co. will also offer Super Small gift products, the brand said.

This includes the “Super Sticker Creations: Collage and Create Your Own Sticker Art,” “Super Gem Bingo: Get Your Gems in a Row to Win Big,” “Super DIY Card Kit: Many Thanks,” and “Super DIY Card Kit: Hip, Hip, Hooray.”

The Super Smalls Super Book of Gems retails for $25.

The book, and its accompanying gift products, are available for pre-order on the Super Smalls website.
