Rose Gold and Black Diamonds, an Incomparable Combination

Writing about rose gold last week, I was reminded of a favorite piece I came across years ago. It was a solitaire engagement ring with a round black diamond set in rose gold. The design was rather basic, absent intricate detail or any unique perspective, but the pairing of metal and stone was so captivating I never forgot it.

Then I got to thinking of this month’s birthstone, diamond, and how wonderful it would be if you were born in April and fortunate to receive birthstone gifts. Is there a better stone to not have enough of?

If someone were to tire of a classic diamond—champagne problems much?—there are the fancy colors to explore. As for the black diamond: In all shapes, sizes, and categories, it must be set in rose gold. There’s simply no better look (says the woman who wears black diamonds in white gold in her ears. But still!).

Black diamonds can be a tough sell for engagement rings. Some will go gaga for them, but it’ll take another major celebrity black diamond sighting (remember the hullabaloo over Carrie Bradshaw’s ring from the Sex and the City movie?) to unseat all those elongated center stones currently dominating the bridal market.

Where fashion jewelry is concerned, though—let ’er rip! As I said last week, you really can’t go wrong with rose gold. And rose gold with black diamonds? An everlasting love.
